Brookfield State School is 136 years old. Brookfield Provisional School opened on 27 March 1871 on 2 acres donated by Mr J. W. Barnett. The original school building is used as a Year 1 classroom and a number of newer buildings have been constructed to accommodate classrooms. 3 beautiful, large Prep classrooms were constructed during 2006 and Prep children are enjoying their excitng program in these new facilities.

An additional toilet block was constructed during 2003 to accommodate increased enrolments.

Our junior toilet block was painted during 2004. Bright features have been added internally and externally. The historic shelter shed has also been given a face-lift with skylights, repainted interior and exterior panels. A number of colourful murals have been painted on walls around the school. Some of these murals are "gifts" from departing Year 7 groups.

A computer lab houses a bank of computers and is used to enhance children's skills and knowledge from Prep to Year 7. All classrooms use computers as part of daily teaching and learning programs.

Over the years we have obtained a number of grants to upgrade school equipment.

The Queensland Gambling Community Benefit Fund has been extremely supportive of our school working with our P&C Association to provide
  • junior playground upgrade;
  • amphitheatre/play activities area;
  • senior playground;
  • 2 practice Cricket Nets;
  • Cricket pitch upgrade;
  • 2 netball courts.
Our Parents and Citizen's Association has also provided computers, cubby houses, shade, tuckshop upgrade, sports equipment, soccer nets, air-conditioning, reading books, and much, much more.

A beach volleyball court has been constructed on the oval and has proven to be very popular with the children. Additional water bubblers have been installed on the oval and increased areas of bushland have been cleared to provide play space and activity areas for children.

A tennis court up-grade grant from the Brisbane City Council resulted in cleaning of the court surfaces and construction of a mini grandstand.

Two shipping containers were donated by parents for storage purposes and a large storage space constructed under classrooms.

A fabulous new Administration Building was completed at the end of 2006 and now provides a vibrant and colourful facility for staff, parents and children. Children have constructed a "Sculpture Garden" at the front of the building and are working on a mosaic sign for the front of our school.

Our Library has been upgraded with new shelving and additional books.

Our Music Team has taken over the old Principal's Residence and plans are underway to refurbish this facility to turn it into a Music Centre.

The whole school is air-conditioned and has a back-to-base security system installed. Both these projects were funded by our Parents and Citizen's Association.

Brookfield State School is a dynamic and vibrant place, ever growing and changing. It is a pleasure to visit and to work in. It is colourful and alive with modern resources and equipment.
